To supplement or not to supplement...that is the question!
I recently had some blood work done, and it turns out that I have very low iron levels (anemia). These results really got me thinking about supplements...should I supplement? Are there vegetarian gelatin-free iron supplements? Do iron supplements come in liquid form? But, the biggest question that was looming in my head was why aren't kale-loaded green juices doing anything for my iron levels? I drink very large amounts of green juice throughout the day (about 60 oz/day)...and clearly all that kale consumption wasn't doing anything for my pitiful iron levels (I'm not going to stop drinking my green juice...I thrive on it).
So, before I take the plunge and search for the vegan-friendly iron supplement, I have decided to be more conscious about consuming more cherries, raisins, spinach and swiss chard.
I'm going to do this for a couple of weeks, and will check to see where my iron levels go....my last ditch attempt to avoid supplementation.
